Dr Keith Waters	Dr Keith Waters, Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne Victoria Paediatric Oncology Representative, MOGA Executive Foundation member of MOG (as MOGA was first called). I well remember attending the initial planning meeting held at Clunies Ross House here in Melbourne. That original meeting was attended by haematologists as well as oncologists. I am not sure how many of the original group are still working. Obviously the speciality has grown enormously since then. It has gone literally from what was a club to a truly professional organisation which has a world wide standing of which all its members should be proud - Dr Keith Waters.

Professor John Levi	Professor John Levi, Royal North Shore Hospital Sydney Pioneer Medical Oncologist & Past MOGA Chairman Those of us who were at the very beginning of MOG in the late 70's remember the difficulties that establishing a separate Society for Medical Oncologists parallelled the difficulties in establishing the new discipline of medical oncology in major institutions throughout Australia.  The successful evolution of both is due to the recognition of the extremely hard work of many to ensure that a society such as MOGA is representative of the highest standards and ideals associated with medical oncology and parallels the standing that medical oncology now holds within the medical and general community of Australia.  All of us who have been involved in this process can feel well satisfied and look towards even more enhancement as the Medical Oncology Group of Australia and the discipline of medical oncology move forward through the 21st century. - Professor John Levi
Professor Jim Bishop	Professor Jim Bishop AO, CEO Cancer Institute NSW Early Medical Oncologist I originally joined the precursor group, the Australian Society of Medical Oncology (ASMO) initiated by Richard Fox and others.  When that organisation transformed into our current organisation I was pleased to join the Medical Oncology Group as one of the early members. For me the 1978 COSA meeting was a watershed meeting for medical oncology.  As a young oncologist about to take up a Fellowship in medical oncology at the National Cancer Institute, USA, this meeting was inspirational. It was the meeting I first met Martin Tattersall, recently installed in the new Ludwig programs in Sydney and John Levi recently returned from the USA.  It opened up the international world of oncology for me for the first time.  I have made sure that the perspective of international friends, colleagues and information have been an integral part of my career ever since. It has been a privilege to sit on the executive of MOGA.  This society has bound our discipline together.  it should be proud of its impressive record of support for our discipline over so many years. - Professor Jim Bishop

Professor Ray Lowenthal	Professor Ray Lowenthal AO, Royal Hobart Hospital Pioneer Medical Oncologist I recall several meetings in Graeme Brodie’s office in the old Prince Henry’s Hospital. He was the initiator. One of the contentious issues was whether MOG (as it was then - the “A” was added later) should be a completely independent body or should be part of COSA. I argued for the latter but it didn’t happen immediately as I recall. Other participants in the early meetings included Max Schwartz and Ray Snyder. John Forbes (surgeon) was considered a kind of honorary member as he had just come back from overseas with very forward looking ideas about integrating surgery and chemotherapy. Martin Tattersall didn’t participate in those meetings but he and John Levi were included in the initial group. - Professor Ray Lowenthal
