Previous Award Recipient
Dr Matthew Foote
The 2007 recipient of the Schering-Plough Hubert Stuerzl Memorial Educational Award, Dr Matthew Foote, is a Radiation Oncology Advanced Trainee at Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane, Queensland.
As recipient of this award, Dr Foote was able to undertake clinical observerships at both the Princess Margaret Hospital, Toronto, Canada and Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, USA. These opportunities expanded his interest and knowledge in neuro-oncology. “Besides allowing me to work along side some of the leaders in the field of neuro-oncology, I was able to gain experience in the use of some of the newest technologies in stereotactic radiotherapy. The experience has also allowed me to explore future collaborations and fellowship opportunities” said Dr Foote upon returning from his visit to North America.
Dr Foote also attended the 12th Annual Society for Neuro-Oncology Conference in Dallas, Texas in November 2007 which highlighted a renewed enthusiasm worldwide in neuro-oncology research. There were presentations covering the breadth of neuro-oncology from molecular to clinical research and informative neuro- imaging workshops.
Dr Foote expresses his sincere appreciation to Schering-Plough for this educational award because it “enabled me to develop as a clinician and researcher in the field of neuro-oncology. It has not only given me fellowship opportunities overseas but also to make the necessary networks so that I can be involved in collaborative research in the future. I would urge all trainees who are interested in neuro-oncology to apply for the 2008 Schering-Plough Hubert Stuerzl Memorial Educational Award. It will certainly allow you to lay the foundations to further your career in this exciting field of oncology.”
