ANNUAL SCIENTIFIC MEETING
The Annual Scientific Meeting provides an important national forum for Australian medical oncology professionals and related professionals to come together to review key developments in medical oncology practice both in Australia and overseas. MOGA has presented an Annual Scientific Meeting in the third quarter of each year for the last 31 years. Each Meeting, based in a different Australian capital, explores a major medical oncology topic and includes a range of presentations by major Australian, Regional and International specialists. The meetings are organised by an Australian based planning committee who develop a scientifically robust programme and selected social events.

European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO) Supported Meeting

The meeting will include tumour specific sessions with a focus on GI, Lung and Neuroendocrine tumours as well as sessions on survivorship, cost effective therapies, and the health economics of high cost oncology drugs.
The Meeting has been designated as a European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO) Supported Meeting and the ESMO international keynote speaker, Prof Tony Mok, Prof of Clinical Oncology, Chinese University of Hong Kong will present on Lung cancer. A/Prof Deborah Schrag, A/Prof of Medicine, Harvard Medical School will present on Colorectal cancer. Neuroendocrine tumours will also be the focus of a Lutate session with presentations by Australian experts, Prof Rodney Hicks, Prof of Medicine and Radiology, University of Melbourne and Director, Centre for Molecular Imaging, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and Prof Harvey J. Turner, Department of Nuclear Medicine, Freemantle Hospital.
The Australian Lungs Cancer Trials Group will be holding a trials update and review meeting in Adelaide to coincide with the MOGA ASM on Wednesday10 August.
BEST OF ASCO 2011 Australia will be a full day program on Saturday 13 August.

2009 THIRTIETH ANNIVERSARY MOGA ANNUAL SCIENTIFIC MEETING PLUS BEST OF ASCO® AUSTRALIA 2010
“Medical Oncology is a relatively young profession and our Association was pleased to celebrate thirty years of robust service to the Australian community at the 2009 Annual Scientific Meeting”, Associate Professor Michael Michael, Chairman, MOGA.
The Association’s 30th anniversary year concluded with major celebrations at the 2009 Annual Scientific Meeting in Canberra. This meeting explored the theme of the Epidemiology of Cancer. The meeting convenor and past MOGA Chairman, Professor Robin Stuart-Harris, worked with a small group of MOGA members to develop a dynamic, challenging and cutting edge scientific program.
The scientific program will feature four international keynote speakers including Professor Derek Raghavan, the M. Frank & Margaret Domiter Rudy Distinguished Chair & Director of the Taussig Cancer Institute at the Cleveland Clinic in the USA and a past Chairman of MOGA. The Scientific program included a day-long Trainee Program incorporating workshops in key areas of clinical practice, lectures, discussion sessions and a practical skills training session, plus two and one half days of scientific sessions covering recent developments in clinical practice.
Highlights of the meeting included the Gala Black-Tie Anniversary Dinner at the Australian Parliament House with a screening of View from the Chair, a short film on the history of MOGA, and an exhibition of selected photos from the 30th Anniversary Photographic Competition called Visions of Medical Oncology.
