Visions Of Medical Oncology
Visions of Medical Oncology was a photographic competition celebrating the 30th Anniversary of MOGA and Medical Oncology in Australia (all the entries can be viewed online on the MOGA website). Consultant and trainee members of MOGA were invited to submit up to three photographs that they had taken and that represented or encapsulated their own vision of Medical Oncology. There were no restrictions on subject matter and entries were submitted electronically via email and subsequently posted on the MOGA website. The competition was open from December 2008 through to July 2009.
The photographs and the accompanying comments reflected the diversity, reflection and insight that makes Medical Oncology a unique blend of science and art. The results of this competition highlighted that the Art of Oncology is alive and well.
The selection committee was greatly conflicted in trying to choose one entry winner and therefore decided to select two winners. The winners of Vision of Oncology are Dr Kathryn Field for her beautiful image entitled "Faith" and Dr Steven Kao for his intriguing photograph entitled "Doorway".
Special High Commendations were awarded to Dr Tonya Wright and Dr Eugene Moylan who both submitted outstanding trilogies of photographs. Eugene’s photographs featured landscapes on the theme of "Cancer devastates like a bushfire", while Tonya’s series examined "Oncology illustrated by nature".
The runnersups include Prof Martin Tattersall, Prof Ian Olver, Dr Christopher Steer, Dr Victoria Bray, Dr Desmond Yip, Dr Fiona Day, Dr Amitesh Roy, A/Prof Fran Boyle and Dr Ben Tran.
