Expressions of Interest: Position of Deputy Convenor, Australia & Asia-Pacific Clinical Oncology Research and Development (ACORD) Workshop

Medical Oncology Group of Australia (MOGA) invites members to submit an EOI for the position of Deputy Convenor of the ACORD Steering Committee commencing in 2025 and, pending project requirements continuing through 2026-28.  

 

ACORD Workshop 

Under the leadership of Profs Bogda Koczwara, Euan Walpole and Ian Olver the ACORD Workshop commenced in 2024 with the inaugural one-week residential workshop modelled on those pioneered by ASCO, AACR and ESMO.  Since then, biannual Workshops have provided early-career clinical cancer researchers with unique opportunities to refine their research ideas, collaborating directly with local and international experts. 

Since its inception, ACORD has trained over 500 early-career researchers from across the Asia Pacific region through residential workshops. Additionally, many oncology professionals and researchers have participated in half-one-day Concept Development Workshops and other ACORD Educational sessions.  

The ACORD Steering Committee is a MOGA sub-committee of and reports to the MOGA Executive via the Convenor or their designated representative, with responsibility for managing the academic and educational planning, development and delivery of the ACORD Workshop and other approved and budgeted annual education projects. Meetings occur every 6-8 weeks per annum as required with decision making occurring by digital communications at other times.  

The Deputy Convenor will: 

  • Be the designated, incoming Chair and Convenor of ACORD and assume the full position when the current incumbent steps down (tbc). 

  • Participate in all ACORD sub-committee planning meetings and decision-making; represent and act on behalf of the Chair and Convenor; assist with the project, strategic and financial management of ACORD Workshops and other approved and budgeted annual education projects. 

  • Serve as a key Faculty member and leader for the next residential workshop planned for 13-18 September 2026, any subsequent Workshop through to 2028 and all approved and budgeted annual education projects. 

  • Proactively assist in sourcing and securing funding for all ACORD Workshops and activities including corporate, philanthropic and grant funding initiatives 

  • Be appointed by the MOGA Executive after nomination by the ACORD Steering Committee for a term of 5+years 2025-2030 and contract to comply with all MOGA Policies and Processes. 

Essential Criteria: 

  • Australian citizen and a Senior Consultant MOGA member in good financial standing, no less than 5 years since having completed their FRACP. 

  • Alumnus of ACORD or a similar educational program and/or service as a Faculty Member at 2 ACORD Workshops.  

  • Vision and commitment to ensure the ongoing, sustainable development of ACORD as a key MOGA Program over the next decade. 

  • Proven experience in leading and evaluating tertiary oncology education programs and managing funding from corporate, philanthropic and grant bodies. 

  • Strong leadership profile and skills with recognised senior experience in clinical trials development, delivery and publication at a national and/or international level 

  • Willing and able to make a substantial continuous 5+ year commitment to the ACORD Workshop and activities.
